The Critics Were Wrong (Maybe)-Waterworld (1995)

There are some movies that are so incredibly bad that just the sheer mention of them brings shivers to all who were unfortunate enough to see it.

Back in 1995, I was one of those unfortunate movie goers who saw Waterworld. I do not relish the memory.

The plot of the movie is as follows: in the future, the polar ice caps have melted. As far as anyone knows, dry land is a myth, a memory of those who lived before the ice caps melted.  Mariner (Kevin Costner) lives a solitary life. He must abandon his life of solitude when he must protect Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and Enola (Tina Majorin0).  Enola is the key to finding dry land, but to find that dry land, Mariner must evade evil men who would use Enola for their own ends.

Were the critics wrong? No. While the basic plot is interesting, this movie is a bloated, over produced waste of celluloid. I’m glad I have only seen this movie once.
