70th Anniversary Of The Liberation of Buchenwald

Yesterday was the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp of Buchenwald.

Between the day it opened in April of 1938 and the day of liberation in April of 1945, some 238,380 souls found themselves incarcerated with the camp.  According to historians, 56,000 prisoners died within the camp’s walls.

There are some who say that the Holocaust never happened or the reported number of victims are inflated.

I dare them to visit Buchenwald or any of the existing camps.  I dare them to walk in the footsteps of the millions who experienced the horrors of the Holocaust. I dare them to hear the stories of the survivors and liberators. And then, I dare them to tell me that the Holocaust is a myth or the number of victims is an inflated number.

We continue to say never again, but the truth is that it has happened again. The genocides Rwanda, Darfur, and Cambodia, have all happened since 1945. Man continues to be inhumane to their fellow man.

We are all human beings. Despite our differences, we all have the same rights.

I will say never again, but the truth is that it will happen again.

Happy Sunday.
