War often brings out the best in us and the worst in us.
In the classic movie Casablanca (1942), Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) is an American ex-pat and a freedom fighter living in Morocco during World War II. Rick has in his possession two letters of transit, which become very valuable when the Nazis take over. The story becomes even more complicated when the leader of the underground Victor Lazslo (Paul Henreid) is being harassed by the Nazis. Accompanying Victor is Rick’s ex who walked out on him, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman). Rick is naturally not happy to see his ex, but he will soon learn her reasons for walking out on him. Rick and Ilsa originally plan to use the letters of transit to leave Nazi occupied Morocco, but things don’t go quite as planned.
This movie is one of the greats of American cinema for a reason. It has love lost and found, war, danger, etc. All in all, it’s pretty good.
I absolutely recommend it.
