It is often said that who can’t do, teach.
I happen to know from personal experience that teaching is not easy. It takes a certain kind of person to stand in front of a room of 30 young people and try to impart knowledge.
The television show Boston Public (2000-2004) was the story of a diverse group teachers working at a public high school in Boston. Lead by Principal Steven Harper (Chi McBride), the staff try to do what is their best for the students while maintaining a life outside of the classroom.
I found this show to be refreshing and entertaining. When plots revolve around school, the focus is more often than not on the student rather than the teacher. It was a nice change to see that the focus was on the staff, not the students. And as someone who is very close to the teaching profession, I appreciated that the show focused on the complications that often occur when one chooses to teach for a living.
Do I recommend it? Yes.
