To the cynical and logical world, magic is impossible. Magic explains what logic cannot explain.
Set during World War II, the 1971 Disney film, Bednobs and Broomsticks, the Rawlins children are sent to the English countryside to protect them from the bombs hitting English cities. Their foster-mother is Miss Price (Angela Lansbury), who appears to be an ordinary woman, but she in fact an apprentice witch. The youngest Rawlins child blackmails Miss Price to use her magic. Using a bednob that belonged to her late father, Miss Price and the children go on a journey with the magical bednob that only the youngest Mr. Rawlins can use to navigate. Along the way, they meet Emelius (David Tomlinson), a con artist who is along for the journey. And if that wasn’t enough, Miss Price is using her magic to help her country win the war.
This movie is a standard Disney, non princess film. And being that it was released in 1971, it has the vibe of the era.
Do I recommend it? Well, it’s not my taste in films, but someone else may like it.
