Before the internet ruled the world, radio ruled the music world. Heavy rotation of an artists’ song or songs was often the key to success. The question was how to get the songs into the hands of the DJ or producer who would be willing to play the songs of an unknown artist.
In the 1994 movie Airheads, the band The Lone Rangers have tried everything they can to get their music noticed by the industry and the public. After being turned down by a respected radio station, The Lone Rangers decide to use drastic measures: hold the radio station hostage. Led by Chazz (Brendan Fraser), the boys storm the radio station using guns that are actually squirt guns. The other members of the band, Rex (Steve Buscemi) and Pip (Adam Sandler) go along with the plan, but they will soon learn that nothing is black and white, especially within the music industry.
On one hand, the main characters are not the brightest bulbs in the box. But, on the other hand, their frustration reflects every artist’s desire to be noticed and how hard it is to be noticed, especially by those who have the power to reach millions of potential audience members.
Do I recommend it? Maybe.
