We Were Feminists Once: From Riot Grrrl to CoverGirl®, the Buying and Selling of a Political Movement Book Review

I think it is pretty safe to say that Madison Ave often has an inkling when a social or political movement can impact the bottom line.

This year, writer and journalist Andi Zeisler published We Were Feminists Once: From Riot Grrrl to CoverGirl, the Buying and Selling of a Political Movement.

She chronicles how the advertising industry has closely followed the feminist movement and for better or for worse, has used the movement to sell products.

I liked this book. I liked it because it sheds a light on a side of feminism that is rarely explored. We often don’t think about the brands we buy, but this book made me think.

I recommend it.
