The mall is a very unique modern invention. More than a collection of individual stores, it is a place hang out, chill and maybe learn something about yourself along the way.
In the 1995 movie Mallrats, Brodie (Jason Lee) and TS (Jeremy London) have the unfortunate experience of being dumped by their now ex-girlfriends on the same day. To sooth their aching hearts, they spend time at the local mall. While they try to win back their girlfriends, Brodie and TS meet up with Gwen (Joey Lauren Adams), one of TS’s ex’s and Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith).
While this movie will forever linger in the mid 1990’s, it feels eternal because everyone in their late teens or early 20’s has felt like these characters. Listless and unsure, the mall sometimes feels like the best place to find oneself and figure out how to solve our problems.
I recommend it.
