Sometimes, when we least expect it, love walks in. And we have no choice, but to follow it.
In the 1980 film, Somewhere in Time, Playwright Richard Collier (the late Christopher Reeve) is approached by an old woman who whispers “come back to me”. Intrigued by this experience, he decides to look into who this woman is. He discovers that she is Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour), an actress from the first decades of the 20th century. As he continues his investigation, Richard becomes more and more infatuated with Elise. At the height of his infatuation, Richard hypnotizes himself back to the early 20th century and to Elise’s arms. As Richard and Elise fall in love, not only must they contend with the time difference between their lives, but those who would prefer to see Elise with someone else.
What I like about this movie is that it is not the typical romantic drama. The addition of time travel adds a new layer which makes it stand out within the genre.
Do I recommend it? Yes.
