Earlier this week, on November 2nd, to be precise, the Balfour Declaration celebrated it’s 100th anniversary. The Balfour Declaration was a public declaration announcing the birth of the national name of the Jewish people, in what was then Palestine and today, Israel.
The Balfour Declaration is a short letter sent to Lord Walter Rothschild from Arthur Balfour on November 2nd, 1917.
While many would claim that the Balfour declaration is controversial, I would argue otherwise. The Balfour Declaration opened the door for the modern state of Israel. Israel is the only legitimate democracy in The Middle East. Women, LGBTQ, Arabs, Christians, Druze, etc, are all treated as equal under the law. They have opportunities that do not exist if they lived in any of Israel’s neighboring countries.
While Israel, like any other country is not perfect, would not exist without the Balfour Declaration.
Here is to the first 100 years of the Balfour Declaration, here is the next 100 years.
