Beverly Hills is not exactly known as the intellectual capital of America.
In the 1989 movie Troop Beverly Hills, Phyllis Nefler (Shelley Long) is a Beverly Hills socialite/housewife who has been handed divorce papers by her soon to be ex-husband, Freddy Nefler (Craig T. Nelson). Needing to find something to focus her time and energy on, Phyllis becomes the den mother of her daughter’s Wilderness Troupe. What starts out as a mission to fill up her time starts Phyllis on a journey that will redefine not just how others see her, but most importantly, how she sees herself.
The problem with this movie is it tries to be a subtle message movie wrapped in a comedy. While I give this movie an A for effort, overall, it’s not very good.
Do I recommend it? Not really.
