Some people (both men and women) believe that feminism, as a movement, is no longer needed. Women are no longer second class citizens. We can vote, own or rent our homes without needing a male cosigner, work in the career of our choice, climb up the educational ladder, etc.
While the argument is partially true, women are still not truly equal. Today is equal pay day.
Today is called equal pay day because a white woman has to work a year and four months for the same annual salary that her white male colleague earns. Men and women of color have equal pay days of their own towards the end of the year, representing how long they have to work for the same salary as their white male colleagues. In a fair world, an employee’s salary should be decided on based on their experience and ability to do their job. The color of their skin and their classification as either male or female should not play a role in deciding what to pay an employee. But we don’t live in fair world, we live in an unfair world.
That is why equal pay day exists and will continue to exist until the issue of pay parity is a thing of the past.
There used to be a dignity and a proud sense of self associated with the office of the President Of The United States.
Then Donald Trump became President. That same dignity and proud sense of self quickly went down the drain.
Randy Rainbow’s new video is entitled “YOU CAN’T STOP HIS TWEETS! A Randy Rainbow Song Parody”.
A satire of the song “You Can’t Stop The Beat” from the musical Hairspray, the video highlights how his use of twitter is beyond out of control. Social media is well and good, but he needs to do the job the American people hired him to do.
BTW, here is the original song, just in case your curious.
Alden Ehrenreich will be stepping into the very large shoes that Harrison Ford first made famous 41 years ago when Han Solo was introduced to audiences. Taking place 10 years before A New Hope, Han is still Han. Brash, cocky and still hell of a pilot, he gets entangled in the criminal underworld and goes on a journey that will lead him to the rebellion. His journey to the rebellion is incomplete without Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover).
As usual, Lucasfilm (and Disney by extension) gave fans just enough to get us excited without giving too much away. At this point, the film can go one of two ways. It can be like Rogue One and open the door to new characters/narratives within the Star Wars universe. Or, it can be like the prequels and basically suck.
Only time will tell. I can only hope and pray that the film lives up to the promises laid out in the trailer.
