I don’t know about anyone else, but I feel like I am always busy. I got to work, I write, I work out, I see my family and friends, etc. But sometimes, I just want to relax and do nothing.
Rachel Jonat’s 2017 book, The Joy of Doing Nothing: A Real-Life Guide to Stepping Back, Slowing Down, and Creating a Simpler, Joy-Filled Life, is about just that. In the book, she encourages the reader to slow down and take time out for themselves. The advice varies from getting up 15 minutes earlier to simply breath to taking the kids outside and away from the screens that occupy most of their time.
I loved this book and I loved her recommendations. I loved it because it reminds me that our mental health is often forgotten over the course of our busy lives. Taking a break is more than lying on the couch and watching television or going out with our friends. It gives us a chance to decompress, relax and put our mental health first.
