If you can, imagine the following: you live in a neighborhood where you are hated. At best, you experience verbal slurs and are accused of egregious lies on a daily basis. At worst, your home is attacked and you are afraid of leaving your home as you may not return home in one piece or at all.
This is life in Israel. Over the weekend, approximately 700 rockets were fired at Israeli citizens. Four Israeli citizens were killed in the process.
Of course, Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) defended the senseless slaughter of four innocents people and the destruction of property.
Protesting injustice is one thing. We all have the right to protest injustice when we see it. In fact, we should be protesting injustice when it happens.
It’s another thing to teach hate to your children and teach them that killing your neighbor because they are different than you.
I have had the pleasure of visiting Israel twice in my lifetime. I hope to go again at some point in the future. I just hope that I can visit without worrying about if I will return home alive or in a body box.

I get what you’re saying, but things are more complicated than that. Imagine you have a small farm where your family’s lived for generations. Suddenly it’s part of a new nation. The new owners force you off your farm and build a settlement on it. Then they tell you you’ll never be a full citizen because this country is now Jewish. They base this on the fact that this was the homeland their god gave them, in which they haven’t lived for 2000 years ago. I don’t condone violence, but…how would you feel if this happened to you?

I hear what you are saying, but Jews have lived in Israel for thousands of years. The Arab population was not kicked out. At the time of Israeli independence, the Arab leadership told their people to leave. They though they could wage an easy war. Instead they lost. They could have made a meaningful peace with the Israeli leadership in the late 40’s, but they have waged war for 70+ years causing the deaths of innocents on both sides and destruction on property.
Not that the Israeli leadership is perfect, but they have come to the table multiple times, wanting lasting peace and offering as much as they could have offered. It’s hard to make peace with your neighbors when they want you dead.

It’s not black and white, I agree. The Palestinians didn’t behave with strategic wisdom, and violence isn’t the answer. I understand the Jews who were living in Palestine at the time when Israel was established got on well with their Arab compatriots, but it was the influx of nationalist Jews from other regions that tipped the balance. Those immigrants had to have somewhere to live, and the land came from the Palestinians. You can really understand why the Palestinians resented the establishment of a Jewish state. I guess I have a lot of sympathy for Jewish people, but I don’t believe you can reclaim a homeland most Jews left more than a thousand years ago, on the basis that it was once yours. No question though, it’s a difficult situation and nobody is behaving that well.
