They say that education is the great equalizer. Regardless of background, family income or location, education sets up a child for future success. The problem is that this idea sounds nice, but it’s not reality. The reality in the United States that education, like many aspects of this country, is unequal.
Betsy DeVos is not helping the situation.
Randy Rainbow released his new video today, entitled “CRUELLA DEVOS – Randy Rainbow Song Parody“.
Based on the song “Cruella De Vil” from the Disney movie 101 Dalmatians (1961), this video easily falls within the top five of Randy Rainbow videos. Like her boss, Mrs. DeVos, is ill-equipped, inexperienced and just the wrong person for the role she was given. But then again, that is nothing new for this current Presidential administration.
The bedrock of American society is based on the following statement: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I’d like to talk about the first word in that statement: life. That requires seeing a doctor, even if it is just for an annual checkup. The problem in this country is that for many citizens, their ability to see a doctor is dependent on if they can afford to see the doctor. Now that the Mueller Report is out, you know who has his sights set on destroying the ACA once and for all.
Unlike other first world countries (Canada and Britain come to mind) where the healthcare system is funded by the tax payers, Americans are generally in two categories when it comes to healthcare. They either have a medical plan via their employer or they receive benefits from one of the government-funded plans. This should not be the case, which is why the ACA was created. The problem is that you know who is so obsessed with erasing is predecessor’s legacy and fulfilling his promise to his base, that he is leaving millions of Americans behind.
Newsflash, politicians make promises on the campaign trail and end up breaking them after being elected. When the late President Bush was running for President in 1988, he infamously promised that there would be no new taxes. A couple of years into his Presidency, he made the difficult decision that additional taxes were needed. In 1992, that promise backfired on him when Bill Clinton was elected.
No healthcare system is perfect. I’m sure Canadian and British citizens have gripes about their healthcare system. But the point is, that it’s there for anyone who needs it, regardless of income or employment status.
We are just under a year and a half away from the 2020 Presidential election. I predict (though I could be wrong) that healthcare will be one of the top issues and will have a hand determining who ultimately wins the election. If you know who wants another term as President (G-d help us if he does win), I suggest that he puts his ego aside and remember the people who voted him into office.
P.S. Is anyone as disturbed as I am by Betsy DeVos removing Special Olympics from her budget and and Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks (R) quoting directly from Mein Kampf? The Democrats may have their issues, but at least I know that they aren’t screwing this country over to save their own skins.
When you know was running for President in 2016, he promised to hire the best people to fill out the many positions in his administration.
I don’t know about anyone else, but in my opinion Betsy DeVos is far from the best person to ensure that American children receive the best education possible.
Her latest proposal to is allow schools to use federal funds to pay for guns and gun training for school personnel.
If all previous signs have pointed to her being completely under qualified for her job, this new proposal is akin to large blinking red light flashing danger.
According to a report last year from the Pew Research Center, American children lag well behind their peers worldwide when it comes education.
What our children (and their teachers by extension) need is not guns on campus. They need books, computers, school buildings that are not falling apart, etc. Many of our students may reach high school or college and need remedial classes to catch up academically to their classmates. A brand new high school student should not be starting 9th grade with a reading level of a fifth grader, but the reality is that many students walk into high school academically unprepared to succeed.
This inane proposal also bring the issue of gun control back into the spotlight. We should not spending tax dollars on arming teachers, we should be writing laws that protect innocent civilians while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners.
From my perspective, the idea of spending federal tax dollars to arm teachers is just another reason why you know who and his administration are taking this country down a path that I fear we may never come from.
One of the perks of celebrity and the income that typically comes with celebrity is the ability to assist those who are less fortunate.
Instead of using his money and his fame for personal gain, basketball star Lebron James gave back to his community. His foundation is supporting a public school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio for at risk third and fourth graders. In addition to supporting the students via free bikes, free meals and free college tuition, the school is also supporting the parents of the students via GED courses and job placement.
The normal reaction from most politicians would be to be grateful to Mr. James. But you know who insulted him.
The fact is that Lebron James stepped in because you know who and his Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, don’t give a flying f*ck about children of color who live in low-income communities in this country. If they did, they would do everything in their power to ensure that these students receive a quality education. But because they don’t, these children will continue to receive a poor education and perpetuate the cycle of poverty that is the unfortunate standard for the community.
It says something about the current state of this country that Lebron James can use his status for good and instead of being inspired by the act of giving back to one’s community, you know who mocks him.
Unless we do something about you know who, I fear for the future of this country.
Logically, it would make sense that the person chosen for the position of Education Secretary has professional experience as an educator in some capacity. That would make sense, but there seems to be a lack of sense coming out of Washington D.C. these days.
On Friday, Randy Rainbow released his newest video highlighting once again that Betsy DeVos is completely unqualified for her position.
While it is not his traditional musical number, the biting satire that has become one of his trademarks happily remains.
I know it’s been said before, but our children are our future. Without a basic education, they will not be able to succeed as adults. The problem is that the woman who is leading America’s educational system may screw up our kid’s future before it has even begun.
Ask any adult about the upcoming generation and they will tell you that these kids are our future. It is up to us to ensure that they are fully equipped to one day become productive and responsible adults.
The cornerstone of any child’s future is a solid education. The sad thing is, that the American education system lags well behind the educational system of other first world nations. It doesn’t help that Education Secretary Betsy Devos is completely incompetent at her job and displayed the overwhelming lack of ability during her interview with Lesley Stahl on 60 minutes.
While there are many factors for why our children’s education is falling to the wayside (lack of funding, non existent parental support, an overall disrespect for teachers in general, etc), Mrs. DeVos’s interview only adds one more nail to the coffin.
In the private sector, when an employee has proven that he or she is unable to complete the responsibilities of the position they were hired for, they are fired and replaced with someone who can do the job. If you know who wishes to somehow redeem his reputation as President, I suggest that he finds and Education Secretary who can actually do the job.
Today I will be joining millions of people around the world to send a message to Donald Trump.
He claims that he will be making America great again. There are many (myself included) of us who beg to differ.
Though his term is not even a day old, he has already proposed major cuts to different departments within the government. One of the departments he is proposing major cuts to is the The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
No, no and no.
The arts is the backbone of our country. Music, art, dancing, drawing, theater, etc not only keep this country together, but keep us moving forward. When hate and prejudice tear us apartment, a mutual appreciation for art brings us together. It expands our world and broadens our children’s education. There are millions of Americans who derive their livelihood from the arts. When we de-value the arts, we lose a part of our collective souls.
Another reason I will be marching is Betsy DeVos. Trump’s nominee for Secretary Of Education, to be Frank, is scaring me.
This woman has no experience in the field of public education as either a student, educator or parent. Her children were among the lucky few who did not graduate from college with thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars of student debt hanging over their heads. She has no business running this country’s public school system and I fear for future generations if this women is confirmed as Secretary Of Education.
These are two of the many reasons I will be marching today. See you on the picket line.
