It’s easy to talk about the importance of voting in a political election. We all know how important this single decision is. But for all of the talk, the action from certain segments of our society does not match the words coming out of their mouths.
“It is my hope and anticipation that none of us will vote for this latest iteration of Democratic efforts to take over how every American votes all over the country,”
This is bull shit. Rejecting the bill is not about protecting voting rights. It is ensuring that certain people who vote a certain way will if not outright be prevented from entering the ballot box, will have as many hurdles thrown in front of them as possible. While they give lip service about protecting our rights, it is really about staying in power. Instead of listening to what we, the public, want and need, McConnell and his party are more concerned with their careers and serving their 1% donors.
It’s no wonder that this country is going down the drain.
Election Day is one of the most stressful and exhilarating days on the American calendar. By the time we go to bed on November 3rd, the expectation is that we know who the next President will be.
Not this year.
As I write this, it is just about 24 hours after a handful of states in the North East have closed their polling stations. According to the various news outlets, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are close to receiving the 270 electoral votes needed to win the election.
As much as I would love to breath a sigh of relief and rejoice, I can’t. There are still millions of votes to be counted. You know who, could be acting like an adult and potentially lose gracefully. But, true to his character, several lawsuits have been launched to stop counting votes and/or recount what has already been tabulated.
As much as I hate to say it, this election cannot be declared as over. Every voter has a right to be heard. If we are the democracy we claim to be, we must wait until every vote is counted.
In only a short few days, Americans will know who will be leading the country for the next four years. While millions have already made the choice known, others will be going to the polls on Election Day.
Randy Rainbow released his newest video on Friday.Entitled HOW WILL YOU VOTE? – A Randy Rainbow Song Parody, the song is based “That’s How You Know” from the 2007 movie Enchanted.
I loved this video. Over the last week or so, the reminders to vote have come at us in all directions. Though we are told every year that that year’s election is the important, this year’s election is critical. If we do not vote you know who out, the United States as it exists today may not be there tomorrow.
