Among the many movie genres, the romantic comedy is one of the most predictable. Aimed at mainly female audiences, the plot revolves around the meet cute, the first kiss, the getting to know you/falling in love, the brief break and finally, the Hollywood fairy tale happy ending.
Over the years, Hollywood has produced many of these films. Some are good, some are bad and some are predictable strictly from the trailer.
The first film I am going to talk about tonight is 27 Dresses (2008). Jane (Katherine Heigl) is love. Unfortunately, the man she is in love with George (Edward Burns), is in love with Tess (Malin Akerman), Jane’s sister. Jane also said yes to being bridesmaids to many of her friends, leaving her with a closet full of bridesmaids dresses. Then Jane meets Kevin (James Marsden). Is Kevin the one who make Jane a bride? Will Jane get over George finally?
The second film I am going to talk about is How To Loose A Guy In 10 Days (2003). Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey) is an advertising executive with an eye for attractive women. He makes a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him within 10 days of meeting him. Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) is a journalist whose newest assignment is to write an article entitled “How To Loose A Guy In 10 Days”. They meet in a bar and unbeknownst to each other, try to complete their assignment.
Will Andie and Benjamin reach the finish line or will they actually fall in love?
Do I recommend them? They’re harmless, but they’re also cookie cutter and predictable. Neither is totally bad, but unless nothing else is on, I usually move onto the next channel.
