Kushner, Inc.: Greed. Ambition. Corruption. The Extraordinary Story of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump Book Review

We all want to achieve the American dream in one form or another. The question is, how far does one go to achieve the American dream without crossing moral and/or legal boundaries?

Journalist Vicky Ward’s new book, Kushner, Inc.: Greed. Ambition. Corruption. The Extraordinary Story of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, tells the dangerous story of how Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are on their way to unchecked power and wealth.

She starts with her subject’s early years. We all know about Ivanka’s childhood, but the story of Jared’s early years and his family history may be unknown to some readers. His paternal grandparents, Joseph and Rae Kushner survived the Holocaust with a zeal that few survivors had then or have now. Their youngest son (Jared’s father), Charles Kushner, was found guilty in the early 2000’s of financial crimes and witness tampering.

Both Jared and Ivanka grew up in very comfortable surroundings. When you know who was unfortunately elected President in 2016, they followed him to Washington D.C. Instead of being the “adults in the room”, they are using their access to the corridors of power and to the powerful for their own needs.

This book is well done and a must read. What scares me is that if these allegations are true, there is no one to stop Jared and Ivanka throwing away everything this country stands for so they will head of the pack. The other thing that scares me is that someone with antisemitic beliefs would easily be able paint any member of the Jewish faith with a broad brush because of Jared’s image, history and access to the wealthy and powerful.

I recommend it.

Thoughts On Ivanka Trump’s Job Statement

I don’t know about anyone else, but my job is more than the paycheck or the reason I get up at the crack of dawn five days a week. I feel like I am giving something back when I have a job.

Earlier in the week, Ivanka Trump stated the following about jobs:

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something. I’ve spent a lot of time traveling in this country over the last 4 years. People want to work for what they get.”

Of course Americans want to work, we don’t want to take a handout from the government. The Federal Jobs Guarantee that Ms. Trump is responding to is not handout. It is a guarantee that every American has access to a good job that provides a reasonable living wage and benefits to (healthcare, retirement savings plan etc).

Not that Ms. Trump would understand what it takes to get a get a job and keep it. She is an heiress who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. If she decided to retire tomorrow, she could with more than enough money in the bank to not worry about paying the bills and keeping a roof over her head. If I quit my job tomorrow, I would be seriously concerned about making sure that I can pay my bills and stay in my home.

We should all have access to good paying jobs. Unfortunately, we live in a world in which jobs (like many things) are distributed unequally. If Ms. Trump truly cares about the American people, she will do something to fix this inequality.

But, given that she is a Trump, she probably never will.

Thoughts On Ivanka’s Response To The Email Scandal

We all know how vulnerable we are when we go on the Internet. We are reminded every day of how easily the websites we visit everyday can be hacked into or destroyed by viruses.

One of the hallmarks you know who’s Presidential bid was the constant reminder that Hillary Clinton used her personal email server for government business. On Tuesday, Ivanka Trump was interviewed about her own use of government emails on a personal server. She defended herself by stating the following:

Well, there really is no equivalency. All of my emails that relate to any form of government work which was mainly scheduling and logistics and managing the fact that I have a home life and a work life are all part of the public record. They’re all stored on the White House system so everything has been preserved. Everything has been archived. There just is no equivalency between the two.

In previous interviews Mrs. Clinton claimed that the emails did not contain sensitive data and apologized for her error.

Regardless of where one lands on the political spectrum, using a private server for government emails is wrong. No server, regardless of how strong the firewall or anti-virus program is, is completely free from hacking or viruses. From my perspective, logic dictates that any government employee should only be using government email on a government server when discussing work matters. I do not want to think of what would happen if a hacker is an able to get their hands on classified data because a government employee used a personal server to access that email account.

The other issue is that Ivanka, like the rest of her family, believes that she is above the law. No one is above the law, not even members of the Trump family.

I keep thinking about what our children and grandchildren will one day ask about this time in American history. I just hope that when that question is asked, we can give them an answer that makes sense.

What Was That About Ivanka Using Personal Email For Government Business?

There many on the left (myself included) who believe that Hillary Clinton might have been elected President had it not been for the email scandal that curtailed her chances of winning.

Yesterday, it was announced that Ivanka Trump has been using her personal email account for government business.

It is deliciously ironic that her father used Hillary Clinton’s emails as one of the major reasons as to why she was ill-equipped to be President. I wonder if the phrase “lock her up” can be applied to Ivanka? If nothing else, it is hypocritical that Ivanka can use personal email for work and it is totally fine, but Hillary Clinton is made into a political pariah by some for the same activity?

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. If a government official, regardless of their position or where they stand on the political spectrum, uses personal email for business, they should be reprimanded as needed. Ivanka Trump is not and should not be immune from the consequences because she is the President’s daughter.

Really? Thoughts On The “ID Card” And Ivanka Finally Growing A Pair

The news coming out of Washington D.C. these days is coming out so fast, it feels like one’s head is spinning.

At a rally in Florida earlier this week, you know who made it perfectly clear that he is out of touch with everyday Americans, despite his snake oil salesman shpiel that claims otherwise.

I honestly don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Of course he doesn’t know anything about buying groceries, why would he? First as a “billionaire” and then unfortunately as President, he has no need to buy groceries directly. He has staff who does that for him. While I have to concur that some stores may ask for ID when a customer pays via a credit card, many stores may not ask to see the customer’s ID. When speaking to reporters, Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed that he was referring to the purchase of alcohol. While it is true that customers who buy alcohol are carded, you know who did not say anything about alcohol. He just said groceries.

While this was going on, Ivanka Trump actually admitted that she disagreed with two of her father’s hot button policies: the separation of families at the border and the claim that the media is the enemy of the people.

Nice of her to say so, but her speaking up now is too little, too late. Where has she been all of these months? Not just a mother, but as a human being, how could she have been immune to the children crying for their parents and the parents begging to at least know that their children are safe and healthy?

History is often the greatest judge of character. Generations from now, when our descendants learn about what we are doing in 2018, they will ask why. I hope we can answer them.

Thoughts On The Difference Between The Samantha Bee And Roseanne Barr Controversies

There is not a day that goes by, recently, where some celebrity is in trouble for putting their foot in their mouth.

Earlier this week, despite the massive ratings and profits for the network from the first season of the Roseanne reboot, the show was cancelled. The show’s star and titular actor, Roseanne Barr made a rather nasty and racist comment about Valerie Jarrett, a political adviser to former President Obama on Twitter. This social media faux pas forced the network to cancel the show.

Last night,  during her weekly show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee host Samantha Bee referred to first daughter Ivanka Trump as a c**t.

While both comments are inexcusable, as I see it, there is a difference, which must be observed in context. Roseanne’s social media history is littered with outrageous claims and statements that are far from politically correct.

Samantha Bee is a comedian who uses her show to talk about the issues that we are dealing with. During this specific segment, she was talking about the children who arrive at our borders with their parents seeking asylum. These children are then taken from their parents by the government. The point of the segment was to point out that Ivanka, like the rest of those who work for and cater to you know who, are tone-deaf to the real issues that America is dealing with today.

Ultimately, this scandal will fade into our collective cultural history and another will take its place soon enough. I just wonder, that when these scandals fade into memory, will we be able to come together as a country or will we be torn apart forever?

What President Trump Should Have Said

A President, regardless of his or her party or beliefs is the moral authority and should be leading the nation, especially during a crisis.

President Trump has failed in both areas (no surprise there). His remarks after last weekend’s rally in Charlottesville proved that he is neither the moral authority nor is he far from qualified to lead the nation, especially during this crisis.

What President Trump should have said is in the video above. Thank you Arnold Schwarzenegger for standing up for what is right and speaking truth to power.

It’s not uncommon knowledge that Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism when she married Jared Kushner. It is also common knowledge Jared’s grandparents survived the Holocaust. Their children are being raised Jewish. I would think (and hope) that Trump’s reaction, not a President, but as a father and grandfather would be of outrage and anger.

I know this has been said many times since last weekend, but my grandfathers, like millions of their brothers in arms, fought against fascism in World War II. The sons of Jewish immigrants, they put their lives on the line to protect America and her values. The fact that Trump has subtly given the alt-right the go ahead to slither out of the rocks they came from speak to his incompetence and how ill prepared he is to lead this country.

P.S. Did anyone else do a happy dance when Steve Bannon was fired?
