Change takes time. It’s not easy to change long held beliefs.
Two developments over the past few weeks are proof that change is on it’s way.
Disney’s newest animated film, Princes, will be released next year. It will feature a gay couple who will fall in love and marry in same sex fairy tale wedding. The only drawback to this story is that the princess is still rescued by the prince. However, I will concede that Disney is making a giant leap forward by producing and releasing this film.
The newest doll in the market in Lammily.
Based on the measurements of the average 19 year old girl, Lammily is the anti-Barbie. Her makeup is minimal and there are stickers to add cellulite, pimples and other body imperfections.
While her hair is still long and straight and her nose is pert, this is huge improvement over Barbie and will hopefully teach young girls that they can look in the mirror, not see Barbie and be okay with that.
We’re not there just yet, but we are are certainly getting there.
