Throwback Thursday: The President Show (2017-2018)

When times are tough, we turn to comedy and satire to let some air outside of the tires and let us breathe a little.

The President Show aired on Comedy Central from 2017-2018. Stepping into the shoes of you know who is actor/comic Anthony Atamanuik. Set in the format of a late-night talk show, the former guy and his sidekick/Vice President, Mike Pence (Peter Grosz) talk about the day’s events as only they can.

Among the performers who have played he who shall not be named, Atamanuik is the best of the best. He hits all of the marks in a way that creates nothing short of gut-busting laughter. It’s too bad that this show only lasted one season, it was the medicine we needed and still need.

Do I recommend it? Absolutely.

It’s Time to Get Over the Fact That You Know Who Lost the Election

When we are children, we are hopefully taught that we cannot always be the winner. Sometimes, we have to be the loser. I would think, that by the time we grow up, we accept this fact and lose with grace and maturity.

As the American public (and the world at large) has learned that you know who believes that he must always be the winner. Any other outcome is unacceptable and impossible.

The unacceptable and the impossible happened on Saturday when Joe Biden was declared the winner of the Presidential election. As expected, there have been a flurry of baseless lawsuits stating voter fraud. What is worse, there are some Republicans and members of the Presidential staff who perpetuate this claim.

I don’t know what is worse, the spoiled man-child who sits in the Oval Office or those around him who allow him to live in this fantasy world. Once again, it proves that they are more concerned with soothing his fragile ego rather than doing what is best for the country.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election fair and square. For the good of the country and our future, it is time to accept the truth and move on.

Our Long National Nightmare is Over: Biden & Harris Win the Election

When we all went to bed on Tuesday, we know that the outcome of the election would not come immediately. After several days of constantly watching the news and holding our breath, we have a winner. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be entering the White House as President and Vice President in January. Knowing that we will have the first female Vice President who is also a woman of color speaks to how far this country has come.

It goes without saying, that the response from you know is the adult equivalent of a tantrum.

Instead of being and adult and accepting that he lost, he will continue to claim that voter fraud conspiracy cost him a second term. If (and I mean a huge if) that was true, there would have been a complete blue wave. Both Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham would lost their respective elections. But they didn’t, which is completely baffling to me.

As much as we can celebrate (and there is a reason to celebrate), there are two caveats. The first is that unfortunately, we have to wait until January before the Biden administration can actually get down to business. The second is that one of their first tasks will be to clean up the mess of the previous administration.

Although we know that there is still a lot of work to do, we can still take in the moment. Normalcy is on the horizon. I don’t know about you, but I am ready to for a boring President and a boring Presidential administration.

Best Books Of 2018

I’ve read quite a few books in 2018. Below is the list of the best books of 2018, at least from my perspective.

1. Becoming by Michelle Obama: Mrs Obama’s autobiography is insightful, down to earth and one of the best autobiographies that I have read in a long time.
2. House of Gold by Natasha Solomons: House of Gold was described by another reviewer as a Jewish version of Downton Abbey. I couldn’t think of another description if I made it up myself.
3. Pride by Ibi Zoboi: A modern-day Pride and Prejudice set in New York City, this Jane Austen adaptation feels old and new at the same time.
4. We Are Going to Be Lucky A World War II Love Story in Letters by Elizabeth L. Fox: The story of a marriage during World War II told in a series of letter that will make you believe in love.
5. My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie by Todd Fisher: When Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds departed this world two years ago, no one knew them better than their brother and son. The book is a love letter to them by one of the people who knew and loved them best.
6. The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah: A young girl growing up in the wilds of Alaska learns some hard truths about life, love and marriage.
7. American Tantrum: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Archives by Anthony Atamanuik and Neil Casey: Based on the character created by Anthony Atamanuik on The President Show, it is a what if story in regards to the fictional Presidential library of you know who.
8. Not Out Kind: A Novel by Kitty Zeldis: Just after the end of World War II, two women from vastly different worlds meet in New York City and forever change each other’s lives in the process.
9. Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy: The Story of Little Women and Why It Still Matters by Anne Boyd Rioux: 150 years after the publication of Little Women, the book still resonates with readers across the globe and across the cultural landscape.
10. The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict: Behind every genius is a supportive and loving spouse. But what happens when the spouse is denied her own genius because she is a woman?

American Tantrum: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Archives Book Review

It is a Presidential tradition that every former President develops his own archives for future generations after he leaves office.

American Tantrum: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Archives, by Anthony Atamanuik and Neil Casey, is based on the Comedy Central program, The President Show.

The premise of the book is that the fictionalized version of you know who has decided to put his Presidential Archive together while he is still in office. The premise of the book is a series of satirical and fictional interviews and recordings taking the reader from his early days in Queens to his current position as President Of The United States.

 

Written in the same voice that Anthony Atamanuik uses on The President Show, this book is hilarious. It also helps the reader, at least from my perspective, to release any tension or anxiety they may have about you know who.

I recommend it.

A Halloween Treat For Donald Trump-Robert Mueller Is Coming For You….

 

The news these past two days have filled with the revelation (though not unsurprising) that former Trump aides Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos have been indicted by Robert Mueller in response to the revelation of the connection to the Russian interference of the 2016 Presidential Election.

I could revel in the delicious idea that the threads are unraveling, but I will let The President Show and Randy Rainbow do it for me….

 

The Mooch-Out

Anthony Scaramucci (known as The Mooch) has the shortest political career in recent memory. He was hired a week and a half ago to replace Sean Spicer as the White House Communications Director. As of today, he no longer retains the position.

The question on everyone’s mind for the last 10 days has been who would play him when Saturday Night Live returns in the fall.

We may never have the pleasure of seeing Saturday Night Live’s sendoff of Scaramucci, but we still have Mario Cantone playing the Mooch opposite Anthony Atamanuik as Donald Trump on The President Show. It’s absolutely perfect.
