Flashback Friday: Notting Hill (1999)

There is no end to the potential on-screen couplings and narratives within the romantic comedy genre.

The 1999 film, Notting Hill is sort of a meta take on the tale. William Thacker (Hugh Grant) is the owner of a London bookstore. Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) is a Hollywood superstar. Their unexpected meet-cute leads to a relationship. But as expected, the press gets wind of their romance, turning everything upside down.

What makes this movie stand out is the fantastic chemistry between Grant and Roberts and the charm of the screenplay. There is also the inverse of the rich boy/poor girl, adding something different to an already predictable story.

Do I recommend it? Yes.
