Most of us (I hope) live in the real world. But there are some that live in one of their own making. That would be fine if they lived under a rock with no one for company. But, the reality is that we all share this planet, and like it or not, there are some who we will disagree with.
Last Friday, you know who was indicted on 37 federal charges. Among them are obstruction and unlawful retention of defense information. As expected, he blustered and lied that it is a hoax and a witch hunt. Now granted, he is innocent until proven guilty. But given the recent guilty verdicts and his track record going back decades, the evidence is damming.
Musician Roger Waters from the band Pink Floyd is a living legend. He is also a virulent antisemite who uses his platform to spread the lies that have been killing my people for centuries. At a recent concert, a balloon pig with a star of David emblazed on it hovered over the crowd.
While wearing a Nazi uniform he shot at the crowd using a fake weapon while the giant screens listed the names of Anne Frank and Shireen Abu Akleh (among others). Waters is, of course, entitled to his opinion. But he is not entitled to spread hate and fabrications. With antisemitism growing at a rate not seen in nearly a century, the last thing we need is this man and his perspective.
The problem is that both of these vile men that they have platforms and millions who blindly follow them. I wish there was a way to break the spell, but there is none. I can only hope and pray that enough will come to their senses and see the truth.
