Flashback Friday: Last Holiday (2006)

It is easy to get caught up in the daily routine of life. But we all know that it can end all too soon. For some people, all it takes is one revelation to jump, not knowing where you will land.

In the 2006 movie, Last Holiday, Georgia Byrd (Queen Latifah) is a department store employee who prefers to blend into the background. Among the many things she denies herself is telling her crush Sean Williams (LL Cool J) how she feels about him.

Then she is told by a doctor that she has only weeks to live. Instead of just returning to her regular routine, Georgia cashes in her savings and splurges on the European vacation of her dreams. Joining her at the resort is a who’s who of the elite. To explain her presence, she is not exactly honest. Like all lies, it comes back to Georgia, requiring truths that may not be well received.

I can relate to Georgia. Obviously, there is a heightened reality to the narrative. But it is a reminder that sometimes taking a chance is the best thing we can do for ourselves.

Do I recommend it? Yes.
