The Quandry That is the CO SC Ruling

Voting rights are the cornerstone of any democracy. In a perfect country, those rights would be seen as unquestionable and untouchable. But we live in the real world and a nation in which some people at the top start to ask questions about voting.

Earlier this week, you know who was disqualified from entering the primary for the 2024 Presidential election by Colorado’s Supreme Court. Their ruling is based on  Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. In short, anyone who is part of an insurrection cannot hold federal office.

A part of me wants to get really excited. However, it is one state and there is a chance that SCOTUS could overturn the decision. The other issue is that other blue states may not follow Colorado’s lead. California Governor Gavin Newsom has stated unequivocally that he will let the voters decide. While he is right, I can’t ignore the figurative pit in my stomach. If the polls are true, he will easily score the party’s nomination next year.

The only thing we can do now is continue to speak up and make sure that Biden is re-elected next fall.

P.S. Isn’t it convenient that Rudy Guiliani is filing for bankruptcy after losing his defamation suit?

Flashback Friday: The Good Place (2016 to 2020)

The definition of “good” is subjective. What is good to one is the opposite to another.

The Good Place aired on NBC from 2016 to 2020. The show follows a group of people whose souls have departed Earth. Michael (Ted Danson) is the architect of this world. Eleanor (Kristen Bell), has arrived in the Good Place with a major caveat: they got her name right, but they got everything else wrong. Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Eleanor’s soulmate is doing his best to her help write her wrongs.

I appreciate the quirkiness of this show. It’s not your average sitcom.

As good as it was, I never got into it. It ran for four years, so there was obviously an audience for the show.

Do I recommend it? Not really.
