Flashback Friday: One Chance (2013)

When a dream seems far away, you have two choices: give it up or do everything you can to make it a reality.

The 2013 biopic, One Chance is based on the true story of Paul Potts. Potts (James Corden) wants to be an opera singer. But nothing in his life seems like it would ever be a possibility. Shy and bullied (due to his size), he has a day job while singing at night. Though he has the support of his wife Julz (Alexandra Roach), his mother Yvonne (Julie Walters), and his friends, others think he needs to keep his feet on the ground.

When he gets the opportunity to audition for Britain’s Got Talent, it may be the break he needs. Or, it could be another reminder that he needs a reality check.

One Chance could have turned into a predictable tale of overcoming all odds. But it has enough edge and tension that it kept me watching to the end. As the lead character, Corden represents all of us who want something that is just of reach and may never come to fruition.

Do I recommend it? Yes.
